The Derbyshire region is home to a whole host of successful sporting clubs. From those working on a national scale to those making a difference locally.
This year’s Derby Telegraph Sports Awards is set to celebrate a sporting club who has made a huge difference over the last year both on and off the pitch. The ‘Club of the Year’ award will be presented to a Derbyshire club who the whole community can be proud of. This will take into account all aspects of the club including their community engagement, how they keep people engaged in sport and how they have a general positive impact on the lives of Derbyshire people.
One of 14 awards up for grabs on the night, it will be sponsored by leading psychometric testing organisation Thomas International.
Thomas International work alongside more than 32,000 companies around the world supporting employees’ development and the functionality of businesses with their range of people-orientated assessments.
Their Group Performance Director is former British Olympian Derek Redmond and he explained why they chose to come on board as category sponsors.
“The cornerstone of any successful sports person or team is the ability to understand themselves, their behavioural preferences, how they communicate and how they are motivated” he said.
He continued: “An important piece of the work Thomas does is to utilise the power of psychology in sport to effectively develop high performance athletes, teams and coaches so it seems only fitting that we would sponsor the category that celebrates high performing and dedicated sports clubs.”
Derek went on to say what the business will be expecting from the winners of this category.
“As a business that focuses on people, we will be looking for sports clubs that have a proven track record of inspiring their teams to succeed; those who are passionate and dedicated to giving their sportspeople and support staff the opportunity to develop with structured talent programmes and have a proactive focus on attracting and retaining participants.”
The Derby Telegraph Sports Awards takes place on Wednesday 6 November bringing sports people of all ages and ability together for an evening of celebration.
Taking place at The Roundhouse at Derby College, the night will be a star-studded affair and also see a number of famous faces from Derby’s sporting community will also be in attendance.
