Sportsmen between the ages of 13-18 will be among the talented, local individuals recognised at the upcoming Derby Telegraph Sports Awards.
The ceremony, which will once again take residency at The Roundhouse, continues to praise the achievements of male, female, professional, disabled and young sports people from across Derbyshire.
The awards act as a launchpad for rising stars looking to make the leap into professional sport. And the Youngsportsman of the Year category will give a boost to the region’s most promising young stars.
Stepping forward to support these individuals on their journey is Elonex who are generously sponsoring the category.
The business helps brands to be seen in all the right places by securing digital advertising space across the country.
Its Managing Director Adam Stockton explained their involvement and shared his hopes for the eventual winner.
“Having enjoyed a long association with sport, Elonex believe this category at the Derby Telegraph Sports Awards is the perfect opportunity to recognise and applaud great sporting achievement among our up and coming stars of the future,” he said.
“We're excited about seeing all the entries and it will be tough to choose a winner.
“However, the young person who emerges on top will have shown incredible commitment to their sport and been determined to improve performances in order to shine amid fierce competition.”
Elonex is just one of the businesses backing the event and they’re in good company with the likes of The British Army, Derby College, Derby City Council and HUUB all rooting for a category.
The awards demonstrate a clear crossover between business and sport and Mr Stockton drew up similarities between the two.
“Sport and business have many things in common, including the qualities and skills required to really succeed,” he said.
“Working in both sectors, at Elonex we know it takes more than just high skill levels to get on and really stand out.
“Ability must be backed up with total commitment, a drive to always improve and the mindset to perform to the highest level on the most important of stages.”
