Sport plays a crucial role in local communities everywhere and the upcoming Derby Telegraph Sports Awards is set to recognise one individual who exemplifies the true spirit of regional sport.
The ‘Community Award’ will be presented to an individual who has brought the local area together through their inspiring physical or sporting endeavours.
Giving their backing to this category is IT support business RDS Global.
Established in 1997 they provide bespoke services including IT support, cloud, hardware and consultancy solutions to companies across the region. They support 4,000 users in 200 locations across the UK and some of the sectors they’ve worked with include: automotive, retail, care homes and hospitality.
Andy Flinn is the Director at RDS and explained why they decided to come on board as a category sponsor.
“We're huge believers in making a positive difference to local communities,” he said.
“At the same time, we're incredibly passionate about sports in many different ways — whether we're investing in the health and wellbeing of our own employees or encouraging the next generation of Derbyshire's athletes.
“So, for us, getting involved with the Derby Telegraph Sports Awards and sponsoring this category was a no brainer. We want to congratulate all the athletes on their sportive achievements, and we look forward to an evening of celebration and recognition.”
A variety of skills are required to succeed in sport as Mr Flinn highlighted.
“Like in business, success in sports is a matter of setting your goals and hitting your mark,” he added.
“Of course, this doesn't come easily — it takes years of discipline, resilience, and an unwavering passion for being the best at whatever it is you're doing.
“From the winner of this award we will be looking for somebody who is driven, committed, and passionate about bettering themselves and local communities through sports.
“These aren't just the characteristics of a winning athlete; they also exemplify what it means to be a role model for people in all walks of life.”
The night will bring together some of the best moments of Derby’s sporting community for a night of celebration. Taking place at The Roundhouse at Derby College on Wednesday 6 November, people of all ages and ability will be acknowledged throughout the evening.
